Eurekas

If one good thing came from the last two years it has to be EUREKAS since lockdown served as an unwitting catalyst for Newport indie rockers Jack Perrett and Dan Burridge.  Whilst the doors to free society remained firmly closed, the lads shared song ideas via voice note and Whatsapp as a means of keeping occupied. Soon, melodies, lyrics and guitar tracks were bouncing back and forth with increasing regularity and enthusiasm. A formidable virtual songwriting partnership became real with EUREKAS emerging post lockdown on the live scene.  With previous successes under his solo Jack Perrett moniker, including BBCR1 airplay and a performance at the Isle of Wight Festival, the duo called up Rich (bass) and Morgan (drums) to complete their sound. With both Dan and Jack alternating on lead vocals EUREKAS had found their sound.

Buoyed by  sold out shows in 2022, EUREKAS quickly amassed a  catalogue of original numbers under the guidance of producer Tom Rees of BUZZARD BUZZARD BUZZARD. Debut single titled ‘Made You Look’ is set loose on the world in May.  Of the track, Dan commented, ‘I was having some photos taken for an old musical project in the Pillgwenlly area of Newport. In one of the photos I noticed I’d posed next to some graffiti that simply read ‘Made You Look.’ From this I knew I had a good song title, and the tune quickly found its own identity as a commentary on the pitfalls of oversharing on social media.”  ‘Made You Look’ explodes with Jack White-inflected vocal delivery, Stones-esque riffs and call to arms chorus, ‘Made you look, yes I made you stare’, quite the assertion from the Newportonians on the introductory release. It’s hard to disagree. Indeed, this may just be your light bulb moment - Eureka! You’ve found what you’ve been looking for.

‘Made You Look’ is the first of four planned singles ahead of the band’s debut EP slated for release later this year.  Of the band name the lads said,  “Most new bands in their early stages will find themselves at a loss when trying to figure out their name. We were no exception. After a few weeks of back and forth with no half-decent ideas coming to mind, Dan reassured Jack that the eureka moment would soon arrive. No sooner had the words left Dan’s mouth, we’d realised we’d found our name”.
