Dana Luna
Alt pop/indie-rock songstress and former Miss British Isles model DANA LUNA unveils her debut single, ‘Back&Forth’ set to be released on 2nd December. ‘Back&Forth’ is the first outing from her upcoming EP, ‘Sorry did you call me ExTra?’ Set for release in Spring 2023. Radio Impact for ‘Back&Forth’ is set for 9th December 2022.
Born & raised in greater Manchester, growing up at Indie clubs, forever surrounded by bands and listening to The 1975s first album on a loop for years on end that soundtracked her early career in the fashion industry. ‘Back&Forth’ is an incendiary debut that explores escaping a toxic situation where a person is pulling the wool over your eyes and keeping you stuck in a loop, with DANA definitely saying that she refuses to continue going back and forth. Sonically, the track begins with unhinged Halloween-esque voices heralding the chime of church bells before the beats drop, DANA’s vocals rise and the guitars ring wild with melody and a shouty, ‘angry pop bitch girl’ monster of a chorus takes a firm hold.
Discussing the single DANA LUNA explains: “I'd just got out of a really toxic situation with an ex. I was sitting on a train and we were in yet another bad argument. I wrote out this really long message basically telling him to F himself and then the song ‘You and Jennifer’ by Bulow came on through my headphones. It's such a weird song because in the mix there was a girl called Jennifer & the song was so unreasonably fitting and I just got this overwhelming spark of inspiration from that. So anyway, I erased the message, hit block, got my notebook out & wrote the lyrics to the first verse.”
“Back&Forth” was recorded, mixed and produced by Tayte Nikchols at Mad Fox Studios, Rochdale, (SUPERA MORZA, SLEEPING TOGETHER, FINN FORSTER, MINERVA DAISY) and mastered by Rookery Mastering. ‘Back&Forth’ was written by Dana Luna and Tayte Nikcols.
DANA LUNA’s first studio EP ‘Sorry did you call me ExTra?’ is set for release early in 2023. She is an unsigned solo artist with a diverse range of eclectic influences spanning from the punk era to present day pop artists such as Taylor Swift, Paramore, The 1975, Olivia Rodrigo & Billie Eilish. From age 3 DANA was heavily involved in musical theatre and started learning guitar and writing songs at age 12. At 16 she signed with Boss Models in Manchester & went on to win Miss British Isles in 2021 but later left the organisation as she wanted to have more freedom over her own creative expression. DANA LUNA (real name, Daniella Alicia) chose her artist name because when she was younger people would over familiarise themselves with her, usually people she didn’t like or warm to & call her either Dan or Dani, or even worse, Danielle. So when she was 14 & one of her friends started calling her Dana, the name stuck. Luna was always a favourite name and captures her side of being hugely interested in astrology, following moon cycles and the occult.
